"Bringing Beauty and Education to the Community"
How did the Garden Club of Montville get its name?
In May of 1945, fifteen ladies gathered for an afternoon tea. All were neighbors and friends who enjoyed gardening. Over the years, they had exchanged plants and gardening information among each other. They decided to form a "garden club". Since all these ladies lived in the Lake Valhalla section of Montville, they decided to name the club: THE LAKE VALHALLA GARDEN CLUB. Over the years, the club continued to grow. Many of the members came from other parts of Montville Township and surrounding areas. In the late 1900s, the name was changed to THE MONTVILLE/ VALHALLA GARDEN CLUB. In October of 2012, the garden club became a New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation, and the name became: GARDEN CLUB OF MONTVILLE.
